Valorization of Industrial Beverage Wastes to Butanol via Clostridium Co-Culture

Project overview

Investigates conversion of industrial beverage processing wastes into biobutanol using co-cultures of Clostridium beijerinckii and Clostridium carboxidivorans. This project extends the co-culture platform developed in the Ph.D. programme to real-world food industry waste streams, aligning with circular bio-economy principles. Builds on published co-culture metabolic synergy work (Bioresource Technology Reports, 2026) and ongoing collaboration with the Ezeji bioprocessing group at OARDC.
